Changes to Microsoft Authenticator autofill (2025)

Autofill in Microsoft Authenticator has been a way to securely store and autofill passwords on apps and websites you visit on your phone.

Microsoft is streamlining autofill so you can use saved passwords easily across devices. As part of these updates, autofill in Microsoft Authenticator will be discontinued from July 2025.

When are the autofill changes happening?

  • Starting June 2025, you will no longer be able to Add or Import new passwords in the Authenticator App. However,you can continue saving passwords through autofill until July.

  • During July 2025, you will not be able to use autofill withAuthenticator.

  • From August 2025, your saved passwords will no longer be accessible in Authenticator.

What happens to my saved data?

Your saved passwords(but not your generated password history) and addressesare securely synced to your Microsoft account, and you can continue to access them and enjoy seamless autofill functionality withMicrosoft Edge, a secure and user-friendly AI-powered web browser that offers features such as Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, Password Monitor, and InPrivate search.

To continue to use generated passwords, save them fromGenerator history (accessed via or from the Password tab) into your saved passwords.

After July 2025, any payment information stored in Authenticator will be deleted from your device.

After August 2025, your saved passwords will no longer be accessible in Authenticator and any generated passwords not saved will be deleted.

What happens to my saved passkeys?

Authenticator will continue to support passkeys.

Note:If you have set up Passkeys for your Microsoft Account, ensure that Authenticator remains enabled as your Passkey Provider. Disabling Authenticator will disable your passkeys.

How can I use Edge to autofill?

To use autofill with Microsoft Edge, you will need to enable Edge as your autofill provider by following the steps below.​​​​​​​

  1. Download the Microsoft Edge browser.

  2. On your mobile device, go to iPhoneSettingsand select General.

  3. Select Autofill& Passwords.

  4. Under the "Autofill from" section, you'll see a list of available password managers.

  5. ChooseEdge.

    Notes:

    • If you have set up Passkeys for your Microsoft Account, ensure that Authenticator remains enabled as your Passkey Provider. Disabling Authenticator will disable your passkeys.

    • If you're not using Passkeys, please disable Authenticator as your autofill provider.

  6. Open Edge and sign in to start autofilling. Your passwords and addresses are now securely synced in your Microsoft account. You can access them through Settings > Passwords.

How do I access my passwords in Edge?

On a mobile device, open Edge and tapthenSettingsthen Passwords.

Don't want to autofill with Edge?

If you prefer to use a different provider (such as Google Password Manager or iCloud Keychain), set it as your default autofill provider in your phone settings. Once done, you’ll need to:

  • Export your passwords then import them into your chosen service.

  • Copy and paste addresses from Authenticator (tap and hold to copy address) orexport your addresses using Microsoft Edge.

  • For security reasons, youwill need to manually recreate your payment info.

Important:Exporting from Authenticator must be completed before August 1, 2025. After this date,your saved passwords will no longer be accessible in Authenticator, but you can still see them in Microsoft Edge.
